Needs Statement
Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC) is a disorder affecting 1:6000 individuals of all races, age, and gender. The disease carries significant morbidity involving multiple organ systems in pediatric patients. Because of the complexity and extent of disease involvement, primary care providers and subspecialists for pediatric patients alike need to be familiar with the primary disease manifestations and their management so as to provide the best possible outcomes and optimal quality of life in patients with TSC.
Target Audience
Primary care providers and subspecialists for pediatric patients.Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Identify major and minor clinical diagnostic features of TSC;
2. Implement standard clinical practices for the diagnosis, screening, and treatment of those TSC features with highest disease-associated morbidity and mortalit;
3. Discuss the emerging treatment role for pharmacologic inhibitors of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) in patients with TSC.
