Needs Statement

Clinical learning is grounded in an apprenticeship model that depends upon the exchange of effective feedback between the clinical teacher and the clinical learner; yet clinical teachers report having little confidence and few skills in this area. This module covers the basics of giving clinical learners feedback about their performance that identifies areas of strength and clearly delineates areas needing improvement.

Target Audience

Physicians

Objectives

  1. Describe the elements of effective feedback in the clinical setting.
  2. Describe the importance of ongoing feedback to the learner and the preceptor.
  3. Discuss ways to overcome challenges (in some cases, barriers) to providing feedback in the clinical setting.
