Needs Statement

More than 89 million people in the United States have difficulty understanding and acting upon health information.  An organized effort to address the myriad of issues surrounding limited health literacy can help leverage time, talent, and funding to deal with these issues more effectively. Several states have coalitions that focus on health literacy in place, and leaders from three of these states will share their experiences.

Target Audience

Physicians, psychologists and other healthcare providers.

Objectives

  1. Define the elements of a successful health literacy program;
  2. Review how to start your own health literacy initiative;
  3. Evaluate how the health literacy initiative of Wisconsin was developed.
